Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Is all stress bad? How do I know what types of stress are bad?

It is a common misunderstanding that all stress is bad. We experience “positive” stress in a variety of ways. For example, if you go to the gym and lift weights, you are causing stress to your body. However, as long as your body can tolerate the stress and you aren’t overdoing it, this actually helps your body get stronger. A project at work that challenges you or even an exciting event can be stressful. When you successfully navigate short-term, moderate stress this can also help you build resilience.

Negative stress is sometimes called “toxic stress.” or "chronic stress". This type of stress may happen over a long period of time or may overwhelm your natural abilities to cope and thrive. If you having a hard time identifying negative and positive stressors, a provider from our team may be able to help.

Is it true that stress can impact every area of your life?

Yes! Stress, especially the toxic kind, can limit our ability to thrive in all areas of our lives. Toxic stress may lead us to lash out at others, forget important appointments, avoid people or situations, and can even impact our physical health. Stress can lead to exhaustion, elevated blood pressure, memory problems, and a lot of other physical health consequences. These effects may even last after the stress has ended. There is even some evidence that the impacts of extreme stress can be passed down through generations. Here are some of the potential consequences of toxic stress:

  • Aches and pains
  • Stomachaches
  • Headaches
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia
  • Nightmares
  • Mood swings
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Decreased performance
  • Social isolation
  • Negative thoughts and more
The stress I’m facing isn’t going away. Can coaching still help me?

Even if you can’t change the stress itself, you may be able to change your reaction to the stress. This can help you feel more empowered and even reduce some of the effects of stress.

So, how can coaching help you? You will get to work with your coach to develop new skills to deal with stress and change your thoughts about stress. If you’d like to work with one of our coaches and learn how to better deal with stress, start by completing our Intake Pr-screen today.

Is burnout permanent? Will coaching help reverse it?

Great question! Good news, burnout does not have to be permanent. We generally speak about experiencing burnout, however burnout has 12 phases. Those phases include:

  • Excessive Ambition
  • Pushing Yourself to Work Harder
  • Neglecting Personal Care and Needs
  • Displacement of Conflict
  • Changes in Values to Validate Self Worth
  • Denial of Problems and Shame
  • Social Withdrawal
  • Obvious Behavior Changes
  • Confusion of Identity
  • Inner Emptiness
  • Depression
  • Burnout syndrome

If you have been experiencing chronic or toxic stress, and feel like you may be experiencing burnout, coaching can help you determine the phase you may be experiencing and ways to develop tools to begin caring for yourself again. You can learn how to create and enforce boundaries and begin reconnecting with things that bring you joy. Experiencing the phases of burnout can make you feel so unlike yourself. Complete our Intake Pre-screen today so you can begin recognizing yourself and enjoying your life again.
