Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

What does "Beyond the Sliding Scale" mean?

Many organizations use a sliding scale which means that clients pay a different amount for services. This is usually based on household annual income. We use a sliding scale model for our counseling services to make it more equitable.

However, we realize that even sliding scale fees are sometimes still expensive or unfeasible. This need was even more pronounced during the pandemic. In an effort to increase access to wellness support, we developed The Access Initiative which offers more affordable coaching services on a short-term basis. With this, we use a payment model that goes beyond the traditional sliding scale. Our Beyond the Sliding Scale model is available to anyone appropriate for the coaching program and is based on stated ability to pay rather than household annual income.

If you have any additional questions about payment, please ask through our contact form.

Can I do Coaching beyond the assigned weeks?

You are more than welcome to sign-up for multiple rounds of Coaching. It is important to note that you may be assigned to different coaches each time you go through the program. Additionally, your fee may be reassessed when you re-enroll (including reassessment of pro-bono availability). If you are interested in completing another round of coaching, please speak with your Coach.

Can I use insurance for Coaching?

Coaching services are not covered by insurance. The Access Initiative program was created as a way for people who are uninsured, underinsured, or unable to afford counseling fees to access short-term wellness support. If we determined that coaching isn't a good fit, we will do our best to refer you to a provider who can accept your insurance.

How do I get approved for pro-bono services?

We have a very limited number of pro-bono slots available. If you are wanting to apply for one of these spots, we recommend applying early during our program periods (January-mid May, late May-early August, and mid August-December). Please indicate your desire for pro-bono services when completing the Intake Pre-screen.

What's the cancellation policy?

You are expected to provide a 24 hr notice of cancellation directly to your provider. If you fail to provide a 24 hr notice, you will be charged for the missed appointment. Additionally, because of the short-term nature of the Coaching program, missing a week may lead to fewer sessions to meet with your coach. If you miss or cancel more than one Coaching session, or don't follow-up with your coach after a missed session, you may lose your spot in the program.
