Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

What is self-esteem? How do I know if I have good self-esteem?

Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself. Good self-esteem is a balance between valuing and knowing your worth, as well as valuing and knowing the worth of others.

You may find that your self-esteem is challenged in all areas of your life or just some. For example, maybe you feel bad about yourself with your boss, but feel good about yourself around family and friends.

Here are some signs that you have good self-esteem:

  • Resilience
  • Confidence
  • Able to make decisions
  • Self-love
  • Healthy relationships
  • Ability to communicate needs and wants
  • Able to resolve conflict
  • Open-mindedness
Why should I work on building good self-esteem?

Self-esteem is important for many reasons. For one, self-esteem can impact your mental health. It can also impact your relationships and behavior. When we don’t feel good about ourselves, it can make us feel criticized or judged by people who are important to us. Self-esteem is a key to reaching your goals, too. If you believe that you can do something, you are more likely to take action to actually achieve your goals.

What support can I get to improve my self-esteem?

It’s hard to challenge the negative voice in your head all alone. That’s where we can come in. Depending on your needs, a therapist or wellness coach can help you identify negative beliefs and challenge them. We can help you build skills that will support you achieving more self-love and self-compassion. We can also help you learn to identify your strengths and support you in overcoming obstacles that get in your way.
